Carl Longstaff of Metal Art was at the launch of the Governments Soft Plastics recycling Scheme of which Replas/Metal Art Ltd are a key partner this week.
Until now, soft plastics have been unable to be recycled in New Zealand and as such our kerb side recycling programs specifically exclude soft plastics (i.e.: Plastic bags, food wrappers etc., basically any plastic that can be scrunched up in your hands)
As part of the launch the Minister for the Environment Dr Nick Smith talked about the benefit of this scheme to the NZ environment. During and after his speech he talked extensively about the types of products Metal Art are using the plastic in, and the larger projects they have completed and are looking at.
A key project he talked about was the Clive bridge combined walkway/cycleway that used 4.3 million plastic bags.
The News story that TV3 ran on Tuesday night included video of the Clive Bridge and the Napier Dog agility parks.
